History
The Opening Historical Account of the Yuthok Nyingthig — Composed by the lineage-holder Jana Dhari, this foundational text ("The Melodious Drum of Virtue") recounts the life, teachings, and final instructions of Yuthok Yonten Gonpo the Younger, the great physician-saint revered as the source of Tibetan medicine and an emanation of the Medicine Buddha. Through the words of his closest disciple, it preserves the origin story of the gYu thog sNying thig (Heart-Essence) cycle of Guru Sadhana — a swift path to enlightenment in a single lifetime that unites medical science with the profound practice of devotion to the master. The narrative weaves together accounts of Yuthokpa's miraculous deeds, his mastery of the great medical tantras including the Four Tantras (rGyud bZhi), his prophetic warnings about the corruption of medicine and Dharma in degenerate times, and his ultimate teaching that all Buddhas, deities, and protectors are gathered within the single form of the Guru. Published by the Yuthok Cultural Palace in commemoration of the 900th anniversary of Yuthokpa's birth (2026), it stands as both a spiritual biography and an enduring source of refuge for practitioners and healers alike.
